Karasu

Karasu takes its name from the Japanese word for crow, the bird whose black feathers throw green and violet when the light hits them right.

Three faceted Czech glass beads fall along a fine chain. The top two are English cut, and they do not stay one color. Turn your head, and they shift through bronze, green, and deep plum. At the bottom sits an 8mm rose cut rondelle in jet with a travertine finish, its dark surface crackled with rust and stone, heavier and quieter than the beads above it.

Every bead is hand-looped closed, so nothing is glued, and nothing shifts. It is slower to make this way, which is why these hold up.

The chain is stainless steel, chosen because it holds its finish and does not react with skin the way plated base metals do. It stays bright through daily wear and will not leave a mark on you.

The travertine finish is applied by hand at the glassworks, so the veining varies across each bead. No two pairs are alike, and yours will be its own.

At 2 inches, Karasu is long enough to move with you and light enough to forget you are wearing it. Black that is not plain black, gold that keeps it from going severe.
